Jewish man prays for peaceRecently, a journalist heard about a very old Jewish man who had been going to the Western Wall to pray, twice a day, every day, for a long, long time.

So she went to check it out. She went to the Western Wall and sure enough, there he was walking slowly up to the holy site.

She watched him pray and after about 45 minutes, when he turned to leave, using a cane and moving very slowly, she approached him for an interview.

“Pardon me, sir, I’m Rebecca Smith from CNN. What’s your name?

“Morris Feinberg,” he replied.

“Sir, how long have you been coming to the Western Wall and praying?”

“For about 60 years.”

“60 years! That’s amazing! What do you pray for?”

“I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews and the Muslims.”

“I pray for all the wars and all the hatred to stop.”

“I pray for all our children to grow up safely as responsible adults and to love their fellow man.”

“I pray that politicians tell us the truth and put the interests of the people ahead of their own interests.”

“How do you feel after doing this for 60 years?”

“Like I’m talking to a wall.”

We should all pray for peace. The events that are unfolding in the Middle East and specifically Israel should be a reminder of how fragile life is. Do not be discouraged. Trust God and be filled with these words of encouragement from a great saint.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
– St. Francis of Assisi

  1. Fr. Jamies, thank you again for this wonderful story. Keep up your good work, it always helps me. God’s Peace.

  2. I think we all feel discouraged like that sometimes! But I can say with great joy that MANY other times our prayers have been answered. As in the case of last week when my daugher was found to be free and clear of cancer! Thanks be to Our Lord.
    Keep the encouragement coming James and may God continue to inspire you.
